Ways We Reduce Stress

Blake knows that grooming can be a scary experience for a dog who is unfamiliar with it. That’s why she takes the time to reduce their stress. First, she’ll assess their fear level upon their arrival and then make adjustments around that. Some of the ways she reduces stress include:

  • Grooming dogs and cats in separate areas
  • Using treats to help with cooperation whether as a reward or distraction
  • Getting pets used to being on the table
  • Helping them accept having their face and paws touched with gentle handling. This also helps your pet become more comfortable with physical exams.
  • If your pet is too anxious for her to complete certain services, she’ll talk to you about ways you can help desensitize your pet at home—and she’ll never charge for services she doesn’t perform!
  • Should your pet be overly anxious and fearful, she may also recommend you talk to your veterinarian about “chill pills” or anti-anxiety medications to help them stay calm.

If you have any questions or concerns about pet grooming, options for handling uncooperative or anxious pets, or anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (860) 757-3346.
