What Does a Pet Emergency Look Like?
Since pets can’t tell us what’s wrong, it’s important for us to be aware of any changes to their behavior or signs that they could need medical help. Here are some signs that indicate your pet needs emergency care:
- Traumatic injury (i.e. being hit by a car)
- Vomiting or diarrhea for more than 24 hours
- Blood in vomit, urine, or stool
- Bleeding from the eyes, ears, nose, or mouth
- Injuries from an encounter with another pet or wild animal
- Seizures
- Sudden collapse
- Disorientation or confusion
- Stumbling or inability to get up
- Difficulty breathing
If you notice any behavioral change in your pet, it’s important to make an appointment to see a veterinarian. While not all behavioral changes are urgent, they could be suggestive of an underlying problem. Please contact us at (860) 757-3346 if you have questions about your pet’s condition. Our experienced team will be able to give you guidance on what to do next if it is an emergency.
