All Cats Welcome at Our Cat Friendly Practice
As a cat owner, you know how anxious your feline friend can be about veterinary visits—and the car ride over. Unfortunately, due to many cats’ fears and anxieties over veterinary visits, far fewer of them receive annual wellness care than their canine counterparts. At Beaver Brook Animal Hospital, we want to change that. By obtaining certification as a Gold Standard Cat Friendly Practice, we’ve gone through the extra steps to make our hospital accommodating to felines.
What Does Cat Friendly Certification Mean?
Cat Friendly Practices receive accreditation from the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP). This organization sets the highest standards for feline medicine and care. As a Gold Standard Cat Friendly Practice, we have not only met the essential criteria for becoming cat friendly; we have gone even further to incorporate cat-friendly elements in every level of our practice. Some of the practice elements covered in AAFP’s standards include:

Tips for a Stress-Free Journey
We know that stress begins at home for many cats and cat owners. That’s why we offer advice and tips for getting your cat to the vet stress-free. Some tips include:
- Leaving your cat’s carrier out all the time, or at least a day or two before your vet visit so they can get used to it.
- Line the carrier with cozy towels that smell like home and hide a treat or two in there to further entice them to like it.
- Give yourself plenty of time before your appointment to get your cat ready for the journey. Leaving the carrier out also helps to improve the chances that they will go inside of it on their own!
- Before you come into the clinic, cover the carrier with a blanket to reduce the chances of your cat seeing other pets and becoming anxious.
- If your cat is overly anxious about veterinary visits, please talk to your veterinarian about anti-anxiety pills that can help make your pet’s journey and their visit a little easier.
