Improving Well-Being with Pet Chiropractic Care

Improving Well-Being with Pet Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care for animals, or veterinary medical manipulation, is the practice of manipulating the spine in order to treat conditions and diseases. The spine is the command center for the nervous system and if any part of the spine is dysfunctional, it interferes with the nerves’ communication to other parts of the body such as muscles and organs. Extended interrupted communication can have a severe negative impact on your pet’s health and their quality of life. Our veterinarian, Dr. Monica Dijanic, is a Certified Veterinary Medical Manipulation Practitioner through the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute. With her expertise, she can help both sick and well pets be their best selves.

Understanding Veterinary Chiropractic Services

Chiropractic services for pets are very similar to chiropractic care for humans. It involves techniques such as motion palpation, range of motion, and high-velocity low amplitude movements for the adjustment. These adjustments not only help with any injury or mobility issues; they also improve the communication of the nervous system, an essential element of your pet’s entire well-being.

What to Expect from a Pet Chiropractic Session

1

Dr. Monica first assesses your pet for any areas of restriction. She’ll use both motion palpation and range of motion exercises to identify the severity of the restriction and if your pet is in any pain.

2

Once she identifies the restriction(s), she will determine if your pet is in serious pain, and may delay an adjustment if they are. Pain medication is often useful in reducing your pet’s discomfort so an adjustment can be made.

3

Dr. Monica will perform the adjustment using the high-velocity low amplitude technique, which involves a quick motion that releases the tension. Most pets take the therapy very well.

4

Some pets experience immediate signs of improvement while others take more time. A level of fatigue may follow for 24-48 hours after a chiropractic session.

5

In order to maintain your pet’s health and level of comfort, following chiropractic sessions are necessary. Our veterinarian will devise a unique treatment plan for your pet according to their needs and your abilities.
